Family with 3 Boys, The Sea and Storytelling Play - A Family Photoshoot on the Kent Coast, Botany Bay Margate.

This is the second time I’ve welcomed this family in front of my lens, both times at Botany Bay Beach, Margate. It’s truly an honour to tell their story again.

Let’s start by honouring the joy of boys. I find myself magnetically drawn to families with several boys or girls — it’s a whole unique and magnificent family unit in itself.

This band of brothers is full of fun. Their connection is clear and lively. They dive right in. Their mother is soft and firm, orchestrating always in a loving tone. Dad is the anchor. It’s magic to witness.

As a storytelling family photographer in Kent, these sessions are about observing and gently collecting little details as we meet — seeing where everyone is, how each relationship has grown, where the harmony sits, and where it ebbs and flows. I make space for the unhurried, unstructured, real and raw to come to light, while guiding families into playful, connected moments. These become photographs that read beautifully and honestly, filled with personality. A visual heirloom. A time capsule. A quiet love note to this year.

Finding seaside treasure is a quintessential British beach pastime. When the rock pools are underwater, there are still shells, crabs, and tiny hands exploring, moments to weave into the gallery. These images capture more than a scene; they invoke emotion, becoming a storybook of childhood to replay again and again. Years from now, they’ll spark conversations about life as it was: how small they once were, who found the biggest crab or the prettiest shell, how their hair used to fall, or how their hands almost match yours now. Little nostalgia breadcrumbs. These kinds of natural, storytelling images are what I love to document during family photography sessions on the Kent coast and across the surrounding countryside.

Photographing families in Kent allows me to frame these fleeting moments in places that feel like home, whether it’s a windswept beach in Whitstable, a quiet cove near Broadstairs, or a golden field at sunset just outside Canterbury. Each session is led by connection, rooted in emotion, and filled with gentle curiosity.

And so what if the perfect family photograph for you is far from everyone smiling sweetly to the camera. What if it isn’t everyone looking the same way. What if it represents each person and where they are in this season? What if their clothes are already wet, their hair already windswept? In play, in a chaotic buzz, in mid-air as his playful side unravels from his babyhood. How good did mama do with styling this session? The mix match of the older boys combined with the stripes for baby brother - perfection, greens are always a win and the pop of pink from her skirt? 10/10
